How Much Compensation Could I Receive?

The Financial Conduct Authority (FCA) has confirmed that, under its proposed motor finance compensation scheme, most people are likely to receive less than £700 per agreement in compensation.

Here are some key points:

The scheme is being designed for motor finance agreements where borrowers may have been treated unfairly—particularly those with discretionary commission arrangements (DCAs) that were not properly disclosed.

The £700 estimate applies per finance agreement, not per person for multiple agreements.

This is only an estimate. The final amount any individual receives will depend on the specific details of their agreement and how unfairness or harm is assessed.

The FCA will set out more detail in a consultation scheduled for October 2025, with the first payments under the scheme expected in 2026.

Can I Complain Directly to the Lender?

Yes – you can raise a complaint directly with your lender or the Financial Ombudsman Service. However, many clients prefer using a solicitor to maximise their chances of success and ensure the process is handled professionally.
